Rory has been on work experience with FWAG SouthWest for the past week. A varied and packed week for Rory, which has involved GIS mapping, out on farm visits and various office based tasks, including sending out membership letters and assisting with social media and communications. Rory shares his thoughts on his week at FWAG SouthWest below.

FWAG was honestly one of the best places I could have picked to do my work experience at. Everyone was friendly and I learned allot about office and admin work while also getting to go out and do some advisory work with one of the head advisors Adam and got survey some species rich grassland.

I set up laptops, sent emails, sent letters, searched for potential grantees and went to 4 different sites in Dartmoor (where me and Adam identified over 50 unique species of plants, 40 of which were in the same field!) I enjoyed every minute of it.

Here are some photos which I took on the farm visits with Adam.

We saw lots of ragwort in the fields, and cinnabar moth caterpillars (and moths) which feed off the plant.

Six years ago my school took part in the Kingfisher Awards which I really enjoyed. I really liked learning about worms and their lifecycle. For our presentation we made an owl nesting box.

A couple years ago I went to the Quantock Hills hedge laying competition, where my grandad and my uncle were competing.

I hope to continue supporting FWAG in the future!
