From the 17th to 21st September 2022, FWAG Southwest Chief Executive Gary Rumbold and Adam Lockyear, Head of Advisory services will be taking on a challenge to visit all counties in the southwest by bike over five gruelling days. On our journey we will be visiting FWAG SouthWest projects and members to showcase what farmers are doing across the region to produce food and fibre in a thriving landscape for people and nature.

Each visit will explore how the forms and projects support:

  • Thriving businesses
  • Food and fibre production
  • Habitats and species
  • Healthy soils and water
  • Animal health and welfare
  • Healthy crops
  • Education and community engagement

Over the course of our tour we expect to cover 100 km a day. Once we have planned the route, we will be publishing that here on the website. We are inviting members, partners, staff any anyone who would like to join us as we travel through their local area. Please let us know if you would like to join us!

Will you support Adam and Gary on their cycle tour by making a donation?

Who are we?

We are a group of farmers, landowners and environmental advisers, who live and work in the South West of England.

We understand how farming systems, land management and farm businesses can be combined with wildlife conservation to enrich our local landscape and aid production.

What do we do?

We provide independent, scientific advice to farmers and landowners across the region.

We help farm businesses to manage precious natural assets like soil, water and carbon.

We showcase the work of fellow farmers and landowners already delivering positive environmental change.

We specialise in translating government policy, environmental incentives, regulations and emerging environmental markets into practical and deliverable business goals.

We educate the next generation to improve their understanding of the links between food, farming and wildlife.

How do we do it?

Our team of advisers has a wealth of experience and knowledge, which we use and share online and during on-site farm visits in order to inspire and support with a wide range of topics:

  • Countryside Stewardship grants
  • Farm habitats and species projects
  • Soil surveys and management
  • Natural Flood management
  • Woodland creation and management plans
  • Assurance schemes
  • Compliance
  • Renewable energy development
  • Kingfisher Award Scheme

By donating you can help us continue to support farm businesses in the South West region that are mindful of and promote wildlife conservation.

With each donation of £5, you will be entered into a raffle to win a fantastic hamper filled with incredible local goodies! The raffle will be drawn Friday September 30th and the winner will be contacted via email.
