Waterbody description

WFD 2016 overall classified as Moderate, failing for dissolved oxygen and disrupted hydrological regime. The Ditch catchment extends from Hatherop (near Quenington), past Macaroni Woods, running west of Fairford. The upper reaches of the ditch lies dry for some of the year, with annual flow only found from the A417 to the lakes at Claydon. The flow confluences with the river Coln to the west of Lechlade before flowing into the River Thames.

The soil is predominantly Cotswold brash and clay; this is a more impermeable layer which makes up a large proportion of the underlying geology.

Land use and designations

The Ditch is mainly surrounded by mixed farming using both organic and conventional techniques.
