Each assurance scheme requires a conservation plan that considers a wide range of potential features; whether it is archaeological interest, protected species or priority habitats. Working with the requirements of the assurance scheme FWAG SouthWest can assist you in preparing a plan that enables you to meet the requirements.

Our aim is to provide you with a plan that meets the requirements of the scheme but also delivers real environmental benefits within your farming business.

We achieve this by:

Carrying out a farm visit to understand how your business works.
Survey the features and species on your farm.
Conducting a desk study to identify recorded features and species.
Preparing a practical plan with clear maps and illustrations to hepl you implement measures.

It follows three new farmers on the first year of their regenerative journey

Woodland Creation & Management Plans

The woodland creation grant is open throughout the year. This 2-year standalone grant provides funding to supply, plant, weed and protect young trees, payments are capped at £6,800/ha.

Soil and water are the most important resources on a farm. Maintaining and retaining soil in good condition is vital for future profitability, while the efficient use of manures can significantly reduce fertiliser costs and protect the environment.
Natural Flood Management

FWAG SW are furthering research into Natural Flood Management (NFM), and encouraging a shift in thinking; away from dredging, concrete flood defences and culverts, and the idea of getting the water off of the land as quickly as possible, towards the concepts of “Slow the Flow”, Natural Flood Management, improved land management and soil husbandry.

Farm Plastic Recycling Scheme

The first FWAG Farm Plastic Recycling Scheme began in 2004 and has taken place annually ever since. The aim of the scheme is to provide farmers with a responsible, environmentally sound way to recycle plastic, preventing it from going to landfill. The scheme is simple and straight forward, with no membership fees so the farmers only pay for the plastic they bring.

Hills to Levels

Hills to Levels is a holistic catchment management approach, which began across catchments in Somerset, aiming to ‘slow the flow’ to reduce flood risk, reduce erosion, improve water quality, deliver wider environmental benefits and increase resilience on the floodplain.
